My Therapeutic Approach

I am a trauma‑focused therapist with specialist training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR).  I help people who have been through difficult or overwhelming experiences and want to feel more grounded, safe, and in control again.  I specialise in supporting clients who feel stuck because of past events, using gentle, structured, trauma‑focused methods.  If you’ve experienced trauma or long‑term anxiety and depression, I offer a safe, structured approach to help you understand what’s happening and move forward.

Your experiences are unique, and your therapy should be too. We’ll tailor the work to suit your goals and comfort level.

What is CBT?

CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, physical reactions, and behaviours all influence each other. When we are in certain situations or triggered, we can get stuck in unhelpful patterns; such as, negative thinking or avoidance, this cycle can keep problems going.

How can it help?

We can work to notice and understand these patterns.  Learn practical tools to challenge unhelpful thoughts.  Experiment with new behaviours.  Build confidence and emotional resilience

It’s a structured, collaborative approach and we work together to identify what’s keeping you stuck and find strategies that help you move forward.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is an evidence‑based therapy designed to help people recover from trauma and distressing experiences. When something overwhelming happens, the brain can store the memory in a way that keeps the emotions and sensations “stuck.”

How can it help?

EMDR helps the brain reprocess these memories, so they become less vivid and less distressing.  We focus on a memory or image connected to the distress.  Use bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds) which allow your brain to naturally reprocess the experience

Over time, the memory becomes less disturbing, and you can recall it without the same emotional charge.
